Description : The Edo Period was from 1600-1870 Japan under the Tokugawa shogunate which comprised of over 300 regional feudal lords. Edo was the name of a Japanese city, which is now modern day Tokyo. This business card carrier was made sometime in the 1800's from sterling silver sheet that was formed with the technique of repousse which is a hammering process on the reverse side, creating a raised textural detail. In this idyllic scene we see a temple surrounded by bamboo plants, birds and flowers. The interior is gilded with gold, giving this card case which is exquisitely crafted, an even more elegant presence. The ring and chain is designed to be carried on the finger. Nestled in its original box this case is a cultural treasure.
