Description : Miriam Haskell was born in a small town in Indiana to a Russian Jewish immigrant family. After attending Chicago University for 3 years, in 1926 she moved to NYC and opened a boutique with $500.00 in her pocket. She worked with her partner Frank Hess for many years until Miriam left the company in the 1930's and moved to 5th Avenue. Miriam's prescience served her, as she designed fine costume jewelry, and survived during the Great Depression. Many celebrities including Joan Crawford and Lucille Ball wore her extravagantly designed, highly collectible pieces in Hollywood. This set is made of brass, glass and rhinestones that are all hand wire wrapped on to filigree foundations. The pin appears to have a rhinestone studded radiant floral pattern with a pink glass coral center and glass turquoise accents. The earrings and pin are a highly desirable set from one of the great women jewelry designers of the 20th Century.
