Description : The Georgian period spanned the years of 1714-1837. Although it was directly related to the Monarchy in England of the King Georges' I, II, III and IV reign, it was a time where society was rapidly changing, and global development was expanding. Georgian jewelry is generally very complex, intricate and fabricated by master artisans. This necklace is an excellent example of the Georgian era in jewelry. There are 15 signiicant lighter colored oval shaped sapphires in the necklace, set in 14KY gold 'crown' style bezels. Rose cut diamonds shimmer over the entire necklace. Rose cuts were specifically designed to glow in candlelight as that is what was available during this time in history. Every link is hand etched with a royal design on the backing, and every stone is foil backed, giving this necklace and earring set an elevated and dramatic appearance. The clasp is in excellent working condition, and the stones are securely set. The necklace is sold with the earrings that are designed to match it. They have new ear wires, but are basically the same style of link that the necklace is comprised of. Two sapphire cabochons sit at the top of each earring design, and the milgrain seen as accents is entirely done by hand. An exquisite piece of jewelry history, this set would be a significant addition to anyone who is a serious collector of fine, antique jewelry.
