Description : Burma gained its independance in 1948, and was officially renamed Myanmar in 1989. Burma has produced some of the finest gemstones in the world. They are particularly known for its ruby. Ruby is a form of corundum, which is the same as sapphire, however it is more rare, and has chromium that causes the color red. Ruber is the Latin word for red. Ruby can grow in a variety of host rock, but often it is found in calcite or marble. These gems can sometimes be heat treated which is a stable process and an acceptable practice. A Burmese ruby that is not heat treated is a rare and valuable gemstone. This pinking purplish 1.66 carat oval Burmese ruby is prong set in 18K white gold, with a dainty, natural white diamond accented band. Included is a Gem Research Lab Report, authenticating its source and no heat, S2017-017049 Size 5.25
