Description : Very few pieces of jewelry come with a provenance of this magnitude. This Old Mine Cut, 2.23 carat weight, N color, VS2 clarity natural white cushion shape diamond is set in an 18KY gold filigree style ring with the name Liela Shubrick engraved on the inside of the shank. The cushion shape diamond is accompanied by a letter stating that it is from Napoleon's lover, Empress Josephine. There is substantial evidence to support this connection. According to Childs and Humphries of NY from a letter written in 1934, this estate company recorded the journey this ring had taken. When Napoleon was driven out of France, he gave this very ring to his brother, Joseph who then traveled to the United States. He wore it in his neck tie. The Admiral on the ship was a man named Shubrick. Noticing the ring on the necktie, he was not allowed to take cash, but accepted this ring as a gift for his kindness in helping Napoleon's brother with his travels. Upon reaching port, Admiral Shubrick requested if Joseph would gift this treasure to his wife, Leila, whose name is inscribed inside, and comes with the provenance of the letter written on 11/30/1934. The sparkle of the diamond reaches far into a past history that shaped the safe passage of Joseph Bonaparte, arriving July 15th 1815. Size 6
