Victorian 18KY gold, platinum, enamel and diamond ring

Description : The process of Guilloché produces fascinating results. The initial steps are to create the shape of the jewelry in high quality gold and use a machine, (or sometimes by hand) that creates a repetitive pattern called engine turning. Often this was done on a rose engine lathe. Once the pattern is engraved into the surface of the metal, translucent colors of enamel are applied over the texture. This creates a scintillating result, showing the textural pattern underneath the translucent enamel. Made in Italy, this ring is a fine example of this technique. Wrapped like a snake is a platinum swirled band of prong set diamonds that contour to the split band of green enamel. In excellent condition this ring is a size 5.
