Description : A signet ring was originally created with an agate that was carved as a wax seal. The inscription was the family name or crests and literally was a signature and coat of arms. It is a seal of identity. It was also a statement of status and authority. To lose your signet ring once meant you actually lost your identity, like a passport or driver's license today. An oval, translucent banded agate is carved with star castles, a traditional lion crest, and a knight overlooking the symbols for this family. Agate is a form of chalcedony which is a microcrystalline structure of banded colors, in this case, a golden orange with white. The word agate was originally from the Achates River in Sicily. Traditionally in a simple setting, this signet ring is in excellent condition for its age. Size 8.5
