Victorian 14KY gold and banded agate Lion intaglio ring

Description : The term 'Fier et Fort' means Proud and Strong. The lion crest carved on the top of this banded agate is surrounded by these carved inset words. This might have been what the family crest stood for. Banded agate is also called sardonyx, and was often used for carved seals. This particular example was cut with the white band straight across the center, and carved with an intricate lion and the above text. Set in 6 prongs in an ornate French setting, with the Fleur de Lis details on the top and bottom. The Fleur de Lis meant French royalty, and symbolized the Holy Mary and the Trinity.
