Art Deco Platinum and 18KY gold with diamond Ostby and Barton ring
Description : “I sat up straight in bed, trying to make out what had happened. It seemed completely silent for a minute or two. The engines were cut off. The corridors were quiet until one began to hear doors open and voices speaking. The first voice I heard was a woman asking the steward what had happened. He replied calmly "Everything will be all right." These are the words of Helene Ostby. Englehart Ostby was trained to be a jeweler in Norway at the Royal School of Art, and emigrated to the United States. in 1879, he became a co-founder with Nathan Barton of the Ostby and Barton company. Ostby and his daughter Helene travelled often to study European jewelry design and production. Upon returning from Europe to Providence Rhode Island in April of 1912, they had the misfortune of traveling on the Titanic. Helene was on the deck and was ushered onto a life boat. Her father decided to go back to the cabin to get warmer clothes. It is the last time she saw her father alive. He purportedly had with him a black bag of gems and jewelry from Paris. Helene went on to continue the company business into the 1950's. This mixed metal, platinum and 18KY gold ring has the signature of Ostby and Barton, with the famous O & B letters inside. What an incredible piece of history in a diamond ring. Size 6
