A meticulous and time consuming art form, Micro mosaic is a labor intensive process that involves pieces of glass called tesserae. These are small chips of multi-colored glass called smalto. Then are heated and pulled like taffy into small thin strands of glass called filati. They are cut in different lengths, colors and sizes, and embedded in a soft mixture, much like you would tile mosaic. This little angel is in a whorl of spun gold, where her wing becomes the shape, and is accented with a pink faceted bezel set tourmaline drop at the very end.
