Description : Made from aragonite, the calciferous material known as mother of pearl is formed on the inside of a mollusk and designed to protect the organism. The milky white lining is luminous and iridescent. It is often a choice for Native American artisans, who use it in inlay and carving. A buffalo sterling silver pin is hand sawn into shape, and detailed with a coat of mother of pearl with textural detail affixed to the top of the silver. The result is the appearance of the buffalo's furry winter coat. His eye peeks out of the mother of pearl in sterling silver, a clever way to secure the mother of pearl to the silver. This is a convertible piece of jewelry that can be worn either as a pendant or a pin and stamped sterling.
