Description : Carry Nation was quite the historic figure. After experiencing extreme poverty and familial mental illness, she became a leading Prohibitionist in 1890 in the Temperance Movement. Axe's have had spirtiual meanings throughout history, for instance 'burying the hatchet' means a truce or offering of peace. This is a beautiful pin and coming from Massachusettes, the story of Lizzie Borden was big in our area! A piece with many meanings, rare and unique. Carved Mother of Pearl and Brass. BTW Carry Nation went on to support the Suffragettes, and was in a Vaudeville Show!
