Victorian 15K Yellow gold, garnet and pearl brooch
Victorian 15K Yellow gold, garnet and pearl brooch
Description : Traditionally 15K gold was used in British Victorian jewelry, which measures approximately 60% pure gold content vs alloy. A flat backed, 28mm round half dome shape is hallmarked 15K, with twisted wire accent designs surrounding the centerpiece which is a rich purplish red garnet cabochon. A six pointed, golden star and a natural baroque pearl are placed in the center of the garnet. The star could represent the heavens, and indicate a sense of direction, as many comets were seen in the late 1800's This brooch has all the details expected from being handmade at the bench, with every accent laboriously crafted and soldered to the surface and edges of the dome shape. The back has a locket window, which is close to the heart, and often held hair from your beloved. A perfect gift for the January birthstone, and someone who loves historic jewelry.
