Description : Niello is a metal process that dates back over 3,000 years. A silver form is created, and then a negative etched design is cut into the metal. It is deep enough to hold the blackened material, but does not cut in to weaken the metal. A compound of copper, silver and lead sulfides is made into a paste, formed into the negative metal etched design, and smoothed to be a solid even surface. That is a lot of work for this unique nanny whistle. Used as a jewelry adornment as well as a functional object for gathering children, this whistle may be French due to the rose gold accents. 35mm long.
