Victorian 18KY gold and rose gold, diamond and pearl locket pendant

Description : A Dutch cut diamond is a rose cut diamond that originated in the Netherlands, but with additional triangular shaped facets, which gives it the appearance of a rosebud. Bezel set on top of an 18KY gold locket with rose gold accent details, 6 round bezel set pearls are also set 3 each on either side of the natural Dutch cut diamond. Inside is a hand colored image of John Marvin, 1796-1888- who was purportedly the architect (Holabird and Root) for a famous home at 1444 Astor Street in Chicago, created in the Art Deco style. This pendant is most likely a mourning locket, as seed pearls inset into jewelry often indicates tears. A magnificent piece of history, monogrammed with the initials of John Marvin. 45mm long x 30mm wide.
