Victorian 18KY gold, diamond and 'Plique a Jour' Mother Mary pendant

Description : Plique a jour is a very labor intensive and delicate process. A piece of metal is created with negative spaces and a stained glass like technique applies a thin sheet of glass precisely into the negative shape. The great jewelry artist Lalique was known for using this technique in his fine jewelry creations. This medallion style 18KY gold pendant has 6 spokes extending from the edge that hold 1.5mm round white natural diamonds as accents. The center image is one of Mother Mary. The diadem of rays extends beyond her head and looks like the stained glass in a church. Scarlet flowers surround her. Her expression is contemplative, and her diaphanous veil drapes from her hair. On the back of this masterpiece are the initials, LAE. Chain is not included.
