Description : Geraldine James is a Native American Dine/Navajo jewelry artist living and working in New Mexico today. She is known to use turquoise from the Kingman mine, and her signature design style is big, bold and beautiful. This squash blossom style necklace is certainly an example of her fine work. The Kingman mine was discovered by indigenous Native Americans over 1000 years ago. Its color of turquoise is known for its sky blue hues, but also it produces turquoise in greens as well. The mine is located in the Acerbate Mountains 14 miles outside the town of Kingman Arizona. What a blend of woman made jewelry, and ancient turquoise. The center Naja piece is a tufa cast, which means that it was created by pouring molten silver into a volcanic ash mold, and removed when it is cooled. The texture is a part of the tufa casting process. This necklace is unusual because it has square pieces of hand bezel set, well matched in color and size Kingman turquoise. This necklace is a cultural masterpiece in every way.
