Description : The Poblano family is a renowned, generational Zuni family of jewelers. A large sized, carved, inlaid mother of pearl image of a corn maiden is nestled within a framework of turquoise nugget beads, and irregularly shaped keshi pearls. Corn maidens were revered within the Native American culture as an icon that represents fertility, feminine energy and the prayers for abundant crops which are a key to the survival of the tribe. Hand fabricated and signed by Jovanna Poblano, who is the daughter of Veronica Poblano, and the granddaughter of the famed Leo Poblano, the significance and importance of this cultural jewelry work from this family cannot be emphasized enough. Their works of art are in museum collections around the world. These pieces have become extremely collectable. Strung with natural turquoise and large potato pearls with a sterling silver clasp and hand signed turquoise colored fabric backing, this pendant is truly a national treasure and showcases some of the finest jewelry available made in the Native American tradition. 20" long
