Description : Fetishes were created from various gemstone materials in the Native American tradition, particularly from the Zuni Pueblo, to aid the wearer with protection, healing, hunting and fertility. Here we see fine quality carved graduated sizes 13 count, bison with carved horns, on a single strand of heishi, lapis, and accented with gold fill end clasps and beads. Each bison has hand inlaid Turquoise eyes and hand carved mother of pearl horns. The largest Bison is signed on his hooves. Amber is light weight creating a very comfortable necklace that looks wonderful with Autumn sweaters. Ellen Quandalacy who passed away in 2002 was the matriarch of this family and was taught to carve gemstone by her father, John Quam. Ellen had 10 children, many of whom still work in the traditional Zuni carving style today. This is a, stunning signed piece. 40 inches long.
