Description : Mourning jewelry was very popular in the late 1800's and turn of the century. It became increasingly a trend when Queen Victoria wore a piece that represented her grief for the death of Prince Albert. This style has a very specific look using onyx, jet and other black gems, and indicated that the wearer was in mourning of a loved one. Here a star shaped pendant has flat onyx cut tablets in the form of diamonds radiating in a star pattern. It then has 3 graduated in size, elongated diamond shaped drops hanging from the center star. A single seed pearl is framed in 10KY gold in the center. Seed pearls were generally added to mourning jewelry to symbolize tears. This is a very beautiful pendant, and slides neatly on its 18KY gold hallmarked chain, which is included.
