Description : The origin of a jewelry locket was to place something of sentimental value inside and conceal it. A locket was originally used as an amulet or talisman, and was believed to ward off evil spirits and protect the wearer. As jewelry they were protective and decorative, however over time they became sentimental keepsakes of loved one's pictures, hair, flowers and other personal affects. This lovely engraved gold filled locket and hinged bail was made around 1900 and works perfectly. It is just waiting for your personal input, and is in excellent condition with makers mark NJP and English hallmarks for 9 karat gold.
