Victorian 18KY gold, synthetic emerald, ruby, and amethyst convertible brooch
Victorian 18KY gold, synthetic emerald, ruby, and amethyst convertible brooch
Description : The history of Medusa is a difficult one. Once known for her beauty, she was defiled by Poseidon in Athena's temple. Instead of punishing Posidon, Medusa was cursed to become a monster by Athena, and was punished by having snakes for hair. Her gaze would turn objects to stone. This pin shows Medusa with a beatific smile on her face. Two snakes emanate from either side of her head, definining the shape of this convertible pin. The five square synthetic gemstones, ruby, emerald and amethyst are bezel set on top of the structural design, and two interlocking leaves sit underneath, similar to a medal. The design is complex, but also shows an organized set of shapes that tell her story of pain and justice.A fierce gift.
