Native American Sterling Silver and petit pointe turquoise barrette

Description : Made for a young woman, this Zuni style turquoise barrette is made in the petit point style of turquoise setting. This style of cutting and setting turquoise gemstones began in 1920-1930. This process named after a needlepoint technique is a painstaking one, and shows many turquoise cabochons set in intricate patterns throughout each piece. Every stone is bezel set, and requires hours of detailed metal smithing, and gem setting in what is called a saw tooth bezel. The scale of this barrette seems to be made for a young girl, and was often the type of gift given during ceremonies. The clasp is fashioned out of 18G sterling silver wire, and holds a considerable amount of hair securely.
