Description : Michael Kirk is from the Isleta Navajo/Dine pueblo. A Vietnam Veteran, he learned much of his metalsmith techniques from his late brother Andy Lee Kirk. Michael's work is considered unconventional as he often uses high karat gold and Argentium silver. He is also known for his feather designs which are the representations of the spirit world. He was named artist of the year at the Santa Fe Indian market in 1997. This cuff is a brilliant example of the use of negative space, as the cuts that are inserted become the separation of the feather, as seen in nature. His entire family is involved as the second and third generation of the Kirk family are also well noted jewelry artists.
