Description : There was a lot of travel done by the 'Nouveau Riche' in the 1820's. It was customary to purchase a souvenir from one's adventures. The tradition of fine Swiss enamel work on jewelry was one of the favored pieces to collect upon traveling throughout Europe at the time, which this bracelet could easily be. An oval carved shell cameo depicting a couple shows a man in a cape attempting to court a woman. She appears unfazed and is slightly turned away with her hand on her hip. Surrounding them on an intricate brass construction of chain linked, uniquely shaped pieces are many complex patterns and symbols in enamel work on all of the components. Enamel is the process of melting various colors of glass, and fusing them to the surface of metal. Each piece is in remarkable condition for being made in the 1820's, over 200 years ago. The slide clasp still works perfectly. This bracelet will fit a medium size wrist.
