Description : Hercules lived a very tumultuous life. The son of Zeus, and a mortal woman, Alcmene, he was driven mad by a curse that Hera, Zeus’s wife placed upon him in a jealous rage. In his madness he killed his family. To atone for these devastating acts, he consulted with the Oracle of Delphi, and was given 12 impossible tasks. This oval naturally included carnelian intaglio, is carved with the image of Hercules, and his physical struggle with Antaeus, who was the son of Gaia, Goddess of the Earth. Every time Hercules would throw Antaeus to the ground he would gain enormous strength because his mother would refresh him. Hercules had to hold him up from the ground in order to defeat him. This famous scene is depicted in the carnelian carving which is bezel set in a solid 18KY gold textured hammered cuff. It is a power bracelet, and a massive hinged construction that is a hand fabricated masterpiece. What a statement piece and conversation starter. Signed with initials, and 4/21/1881.
