Description : Phil Poseyesva began his jewelry career at 13 years old. He is still working as a master Hopi artisan today. His family is originally from the Second Mesa in Arizona, and he is also a member of the Bear clan. His interpretations of traditional motifs in Hopi culture, produces a very stylized, and distinctive signature. This 100mm long, sterling silver overlay maiden does not disappoint. She is a masterpiece of story and craftsmanship combined. The subtlety and precision of his metalsmithing techniques, from a simple variation in the surface texture to bezel setting the brilliant blue 10x15mm turquoise cabochon, with silver apparent it its matrix, is breathtaking. His work is in museum collections all over the country, including the National Museum in Washington DC. The Hopi Corn Maiden wears her hair in the traditional style of an unmarried woman. The leather strap with sterling silver hand made finials is in near perfect condition. She is museum worthy.
