Description : Snuff is a specific form of processing tobacco in a dry form. It is finely ground up cured tobacco leaves, and inhaled through the nose. Snuff became popular in the 1600's with the expansion of tobacco farms. It is a highly addictive substance but less so than other forms of tobacco. This hand formed hinged brass spoon was designed to put a 'pinch' of snuff within its jaws, which was subsequently inhaled by the user. The ring at the top was there to hang on a chain about the neck for convenience. There are serious health risks associated with the consumption of tobacco but no health risk at all wearing such an interesting piece of Victorian history.
