Description : This emblem from the Shriners is a faction of the brotherhood of Masons, and is called 'The Jewel of the Order'. Known for its Middle Eastern iconography, the crescent moon is formed by the shape of two Bengal tigers' claws, the centerpiece is a Sphinx, and the star and scimitar represent what the Shriners core values are, brotherhood, morality and charity. Set in the center of this camphor glass pendant is the Masonic design for the Shriners. Camphor glass is frosted, using hydrofluoric acid to create the look of gum camphor, which was used for dry lips. The Masons were formed sometime in the early 1800's and this is the symbol for their fraternity.
