Victorian Sterling Silver and Gold Vermeil diamond coin pendant
Victorian Sterling Silver and Gold Vermeil diamond coin pendant
Description : The Union Des Sommeliers in France was established in 1907. It promotes the profession, education, and still today organizes national and international competitions. This coin turned pendant was given as one of the awards around the early part of the 20th century. The word 'sommelier' literally translated means butler or 'wine steward'. Placed in a gold vermeil and florette style, natural diamond setting, and accented bail, this coin was made to be worn! A beautiful woman reaches for a vine above her head. The back of the pendant shows grapes in a wreath around the text. The coin is 30mm in diameter, and the pendant is 34mm with the edge. What a story this coin could tell about a wine competition over 100 years ago in France! It could be one of the earliest commemorative coins of its type.
