Native American Sterling Silver and turquoise spring clip barrette

Description : A stamping tool is used to create a design on a sterling silver surface in the Native American style of silversmithing. The stamp is generally hand ground steel and has a design in relief on the bottom. A hammer is used to impress the design on the stamp into the softer sterling silver metal. This barrette is very feminine, and has not only a textural design, but an asymmetric bow that coils around a brilliant blue nugget of turquoise that is bezel set on top. It's very unusual to see that the metal type stamped on top of the design, but you can clearly see the sterling stamp. The stainless steel spring clip fills the back of this domed barrette and this is why it is hallmarked on the top.
