Art Noveau Plique-a-jour sterling silver shamrock brooch

Description : There are so many beautiful qualities to this brooch. The Art Noveau style was in vogue in the late1800's to early 1900's. The design of this brooch is the perfect example of the organic forms of that era. The green coloration is done by a process called Plique-a-jour, translated to 'letting in daylight',and is a vitreous enamalling technique. As in a similar process to making stained glass, the window pane shapes are built in metal, and each cell is carefully melted in a kiln with a thin layer of enamel. This pin has the face of a child, and is in the shape of a 4 leaf shamrock. Perfect for Saint Patrick's Day! Stamped and signed.
