Native American Sterling silver Hopi cuff bracelet

Description : The process of overlay metal creates a dimensional look. This technique was mastered by many Native jewelry makers. The Hopi waterbird is a sacred symbol of life, vitality, and a prayer for rain. This bracelet is a masterpiece of Native processes. The first layer of silver is sawn out, and then sweat soldered to the backplate to create the design. The inset metal is then oxidized with liver of sulpher to delineate the form of the symbols. This bracelet is also stamped. When hammering on a mandrel or anvil, often the hammer marks will show through the back, and the inside of this cuff has the evidence, and marks of a hand made bracelet. At 40mm wide it is a significant piece of statement jewelry, and would fit a medium wrist.
