Native American Santo Domingo Spiny Oyster, Turquoise, Coral and Mother of Pearl shell necklace

Description : The Santo Domingo Pueblo is one of the oldest Native American Pueblos in New Mexico. Originally called the Kewa its name was changed by the Spanish circa 1600. Juanita Coriz and the Coriz family is from the Santo Domingo Pueblo, possibly having lived there for over 400 years. Their ancestral ties date back to Chaco Canyon and Mesa Verde. This necklace was most likely made in the 1920's and is a classic example of pre-metal work that was introduced by the Europeans. A very special treasure.
