Description : Turquoise has been mined, carved and used in jewelry and other fine art objects for thousands of years. Originally thought to be found in Turkey, and the name is derived from the words 'pierre tourques.' Because of its soft nature it was carved into various animals and shapes that had meaning to the culture it was produced. There was an Egyptian Revival in the early 1920's in Europe because of the exploration and discovery of Tutankhamon's tomb, and the iconography became a style setting trend throughout Europe discovered in 1922. The scarab was a representation of the legend of the dung beetle that was thought to push the sun around the world every day and brought sunrise. This was a metaphor for transformation, renewal and rebirth in Egyptian culture. This large interpretive carving is set beautifully in a solid 18KY gold ring setting. Size 6
