Victorian 14KY gold with 18KY gold wash and seed pearls with book chain pendant

Description : In perfect condition, the locket is possibly a mourning pendant. Seed pearls were a reference to tears, and we see three of them here. The construction on this piece has been done by a master. All of the details were hand fabricated including the granulation, the wire and the construction of the locket in the back. Made in 14KY gold the substrate metal is then 'washed' in 18KY gold. The 17" book chain is included. Why is it called a book chain? The links are shaped like a book. This style of jewelry was very popular in the late 1800's. There is definitely a story woven into the construction of this amazing piece of history. An insightful gift for the person born in June.
