Description : Bohemian Garnet jewelry was very popular in the late 1800's. This 12mm wide, tapered bracelet is dated from approximately 1875. It has all the typical details one might expect from a bracelet of this era. The now Czech Republic was the source of garnets that were used in much of the jewelry from this time. Their coloration is significantly unique, and their prong setting a definite signature of the style. The garnets were often faceted rounds that were set 'culet' up which created a texture and enhanced burgundy color with an orange-ish fire. Gilt is a way that the gold color was achieved with a wash of actual gold, often over sterling silver. A hinged cuff is easy to wear and is very secure. Garnets are the birthstone for January.
