Description : Carnelian is a form of microcrystalline quartz found in the chalcedony family. Its name is derived from the latin word carneus which means 'flesh'. The warm orange translucent tones of this lovely gemstone, is considered to be symbolic of the hues of human skin. It has been used for thousands of years in jewelry, and often it was reversed carved to be used as an intaglio for a wax signature. This oval tablet is smooth and unadorned, showing the magical warmth and glow of the color and primary qualities of its nature. Set in 14KY gold in a signet style setting with a flat shank, the Victorians loved this style, and used carnelian in many of their designs. Size 5.5
