Victorian Sterling Silver Mask pin
Victorian Sterling Silver Mask pin
Description : The masquerade ball was an indoor event that was developed in the 1700's for the wealthy and elite of much of Europe. Dramatic costumes were worn and the masks were designed to conceal the person's identity. This is most likely a man's mask as it is very simple and unadorned. The women's masks were traditionally ornate. One little secret however, is that the mask usually had a detail or two that revealed who the person was wearing it. Each mask told a story. A breathtaking tiny, 18mm x 8mm piece of hallmarked sterling silver jewelry, that is so animated and mysterious, would make a great gift for someone who loves the 'art' of a masquerade. Over 100 years old, with so much history to bring forward, this mask could almost be alive today.
