Victorian 14KY gold pearl and enamel tassel convertible pendant/pin
Victorian 14KY gold pearl and enamel tassel convertible pendant/pin
Description : Taille d-epergne is literally translated to 'shallow cut'. This type of enamel work was first engraved, but cut uniformly deep into the surface of the gold. To spare the loss of gold, it was minimally engraved, and then a portion of the design was enameled. A convertible piece is created for multi-use, which in this case is either a pin or a pendant depending on how one wanted to wear it. The hollow form on the top has a swivel loop, and the tassels are created from a 1.5mm herringbone chain, which creates a kinetic effect. The natural pearls are graduated in size, and organically shaped, and could be a signifier, combined with the black enamel for this piece, to be considered 'mourning' jewelry. Made circa 1870
