Description : The genus Polymita is the Latin word for 'many stripes'. This pin is a Cuban Tree Snail that has been pecked open by a bird. What a moment in time to capture in a single piece of jewelry. Her eyes are 3mm cultured pearls. These snails are unique to Cuba only. In their colorful beauty, they also have something called a 'Love Dart' that stabs their mating partners. Found in shrubbery and wooded areas, this striped snail won the award for 'Mollusk of the Year" in 2022 through the Worldwide Society for Mollusc research, and will have a blueprint of its genetics revealed including the reason for their brilliant colored stripes, in hopes of preserving its species from extinction. A snail always carries its home on its back, and therefore is always considered at home. What an incredible piece of natural history preserved by being crafted in gold. 50mm long.
