ANDRES QUANDELACY
Native American Sterling silver, turquoise and malachite carved fetish necklace
Native American Sterling silver, turquoise and malachite carved fetish necklace
Description : Andres Quandelacey's gem carving work is the most sought after in the Quandelacey family legacy. He is currently in his 60's and the only living survivor brother of Stewart, who was a world renouned Zuni carver. The weight of this carved malachite, mountain lion fetish necklace is significant and the cool carved gem is sensuous in design. Malachite generally comes from Africa and the finest from Russia, but is also found more closely in Mexico. Copper is the element that turns this gemstone green and the concentric circles are formed when polished because of its botryoidal crystal formation . Soft enough to carve, yet it is durable enough to wear, malachite has been used as a gem and for inlay for hundreds of years. The eyes are turquoise blue and the line through the chest with the arrow signifies the power of the breath. A national treasure, that is an heirloom masterpiece. Signed with the tag, and approximately 24 inches in length.
