Description : The Tahitian pearl is formed within the mollusk Pinktada Margaritafera, which has a black lip. When seeded, the shell or grain of sand becomes an irritant in the flesh of the oyster, and the black nacre forms in layers around the seed. The nacre is offically 2mm thick, and Tahitian pearls are always 9mm or larger. As the nacre forms, which can take months, or sometimes several years, it can develop with a sheen, or luster. The luster can often have a slight overtone. These 3, AB grade 9mm Tahitian pearls show 3 different overtones. One is a burgandy, or what the French Tahitians call aubergine, one is charcoal gray with a green overtone, and the third is silver. Matched in size perfectly, each pearl is buffered from touching the one next to it with a convex, diamond accented spacer, that is designed to cup the surface of each pearl perfectly. Drilled to be strung on a solid omega 18KY gold 18" chain, this smooth, classic and elegantly designed necklace is truly a rarity.
