Victorian Silver Match Safe

Description : A match safe was designed to be a watertight container for your matches. This 70mm x35mm wide silver plated box was possibly designed for a woman. The profile of the woman, on one side of the container shows great detail, and her flowing hair curls up in a typical Victorian/Art Nouveau style. At the time this match safe was created, a smoking woman was considered quite scandalous! On the other side is a beautiful detailed image of a horse. This would make a fantastic gift for a woman especially an equestrian! A great place to store your tiny personal affects. Patented in January 12, 1904 it is an auspicious date for a personal touch.
