Georgian Cut Steel Link Bracelet

Description : Cut steel jewelry was created from tiny faceted studs that were riveted together. Its unique properties were that the entire piece was made from the cut steel. Fashionable in France around the 1750's, each stud had 15 facets making it difficult to discern from marcasite jewelry. The laws of the day in France and Switzerland regulated who could wear jewelry, and cut steel made it possible for everyone to wear something special. Originally run by a British entrepreneur named Sykes, the French manufactured it, and the demand for cut steel jewelry made it more valuable than gold. This bracelet is a fine piece of history, and was made for a very small wrist.
