Description : Turquoise in the United States was mined in several areas of the Southwest. The Native American craftsmen used this magical gemstone in most of the jewelry work that is produced. One of the most famous mines was the Sleeping Beauty, which produced some of the finest turquoise in the world. Located in Globe Arizona, the Sleeping Beauty mine was named so for the mountain range that it came from, which was said to look like a woman sleeping with her arms crossed. Closing in the 1960's it was re-opened and closed again in 2012. Only a small portion of the turquoise from this mine is considered gem grade, producing a beautiful sky blue color, and often with very little matrix. There are 48 pieces of 8mmx6mm oval cabochons on this bracelet that are bezel set. A very wide cuff, (close to 60mm) with a significant weight in silver, this bracelet is stamped and hallmarked. Becoming increasingly rare, as supplies of material are dwindling, this Native American treasure is a masterpiece of tradition and craftmanship.
