Victorian Bog Oak Brooch

Description : 'Bog Oak' was formed over thousands of years in the anaerobic peat bogs off the coast of Ireland and Scotland. This oak wood was found to be durable enough to carve into jewelry. Primarily worn as mourning jewelry , the somber tones and engraving would reveal sentimental details of the person who had passed on. This 40mm wide piece is carved with a floral motif on the top and round openings around the bottom edge.
