Modern 14KY gold Boulder Opal and diamond pendant

Description : It is often misunderstood that Boulder opal does not come from our hometown here in Boulder, Colorado, but rather refers to how the opal is formed. Opal is a soft, spherical silicate, and almost like a liquid, it covers and fills areas that are open in other host rock. The back of this pendant is cut out, to show the boulder that is the substrate of the gem. Measuring 5 on the Mohs scale, opal is soft, but is a perfect choice of gem for a pendant. The organic shape is bezel set in 14KY gold, and is approximately 15mm x 18mm. The round faceted diamond accent adds just the right amount of sparkle.
