Victorian 14KY gold Pietra Dura Pin

Description : Created c. 1870, the inlay in this brooch is pristine. Pietre is the word for 'stone' and dura is the work for 'hard'. The process is to cut the colored stone into pieces like a jig-saw puzzle, Each piece is precisely fitted to each other. This style was traditionally done in floral arrangements. The gradient colors of the stone is what makes these pieces so jaw-dropping. Measuring at 55mmx40mm, the stone is then fashioned into the general shape and set as if a gem, within the embrace of a 14KY gold filigree style setting.
