Description : Saint George became a famed military saint. Most likely martyred in 290 AD by the Roman emporer Diocletian. It was not until the 11th century that the mysterious story evolved of slaying a dragon. Legend has it that there was a dragon terrorizing the area of Silene, now known as Libya. When sheep no longer sufficed as sacrifices, humans were chosen, and in this instance the King's daughter was one of the selected. George slayed the dragon with the sword of Ascalon, now known as an area in Israel. This sword was known for destroying evil. What an unusual piece this is! An elaborate brass frame box adorned with stars and lions hold the rings to carry your treasure. The pendant hangs inside the box. Determined to be Austro-Hungarian, the crystal glass is the finest known and in pristine condition. The tray slides out to the side, and your pendant can be accessed conveniently. The pendant is made from sterling silver, enameled, and accented with a pearl chain. This one of a kind jewelry box is certainly an unique historic treasure.
